Why our approach is unique & innovative

Forget everything you know about traditional therapy or healing methods. Our approach is unique. We combine many different techniques & methods to put you on the path to feeling better. We understand every body is different, and some people respond better to certain techniques.

Our goal as a human movement specialists, is to improve your movement quality. We want you to move better & feel better. For athletes, that might mean correcting compensations, increasing flexibility, addressing muscular pain, or speeding up recovery time from an injury. For those who’s athletic careers are behind them or maybe never participated in sports, there might be long lasting aches & pains that have lingered far too long. For those with neurodevelopmental disorders it may mean addressing problems at the level of the nervous system, tactile input, integrating primitive reflexes, and more! Therefore, our sessions are packed with interventions that are designed to correct or get you on the right path of feeling better. See below for more information on each of our methods.

SQUARE 1 System

SQUARE 1 System is an extremely effective method for aches, pains, and restoring movement quality. What makes it so effective is it addresses the deep source behind why the body compensates. We are able to target the root cause for compensations, which are unconscious threats to your CNS.

SQUARE 1 System is effective for nearly all individuals. Within our session, we utilize Neuro muscle response testing to find the deep threats to your nervous system. This includes finding triggers that the brain perceives as threats. We then restore muscle control through isometric interventions.

Common Questions: (taken directly from the SQUARE 1 System website)

  • Does it hurt? Nearly all of our clients experience no pain during a session. Low intensity isometric exercise and muscle testing does lead to some light muscle soreness for a small percentage of our clients 1-2 days after a session.
  • How long does it take to start feeling better, performing better, etc.? This is dependent upon a number of variables. The client’s DNA, injury history, nutritional history, and the duration of their chronic issues are some of the factors that play a role in one’s motor control health. The more issues a client needs to have cleared, the longer it will take to start noticing the SQUARE 1 System difference.
  • How long does the effect last? The SQUARE 1 System actually addresses the deep source behind why the body compensates, it typically yields much longer lasting “effects” than conventional approaches  to pain. Because we can’t actually make a body impervious to all forms of stress, future “breakdowns” are just part of being a living, breathing human being. But because the SQUARE 1 System™ brings your human movement system closer to where it is designed to be, most of our clients are pleasantly surprised that the “effect” tends to last for weeks and months. Periodic maintenance sessions are recommended, similar to the way you service a car or visit a dentist for semi-annual cleanings.
  • Can the SQUARE 1 System help me? More than likely! If your issues are related to poor movement quality, and they probably are, the SQUARE 1 System will help you. Since motor control deficits make all of us compensate with our movement, everybody can get something out of a SQUARE 1 System session. For a very high percentage of our clients, the effects are incredibly noticeable. For a small percentage of our clients, the effect is not very noticeable. This is a red flag to us. For these clients, the causative factor behind there symptoms is typically not directly related to motor control (example: severe tissue damage, disease, major nutritional deficiencies, etc.) and they may need to see a medical specialist. Most of our clients have already sought out help through conventional modalities and yet received very little to no perceptible benefit. These clients come to us and, within 1-3 sessions, find that their symptoms have been dramatically reduced or totally eliminated with the SQUARE 1 System.

Reflexive Performance reset

RPR is another non-traditional method to addressing and preventing pain & compensations. It is a system that utilizes breathing and tactile input to reset the body. Our bodies are often in a compensatory state due to high amount of stressors on us from life. This can have a negative impact on us that often leads to injury or aches/soreness.

Breathing is at the foundation of everything we do at Nekton Sports Performance. We teach every athlete that comes through our doors how to “belly breathe,” which is really diaphragmatic breathing. The benefits of diaphragmatic breathing include:

  • Increased air flow to arteries, veins, and nerves
  • increased oxygen uptake and circulation
  • slowing down breathing
  • improved lung volume
  • helping your diaphragm work properly due to 50% resistance of air flow, which stimulates your diaphragm
  • Boosting nitric oxide, which enhances oxygen octane by dilating your blood vessels, which can help lower blood pressure.

RPR® is not a “treatment” for injuries. It is not intended to “treat”, “fix”, “manipulate” or otherwise replace medical advice and/or treatment.

Posturology (CIES)

Imagine a car.. the steering wheel is turning one direction, while the tires are facing a different direction. This probably wouldn’t be a very effective way to drive. The tires would wear out, and the car would eventually break down. While we are obviously not cars, a lot of us move in a similar way to the example above. We know from research that the two parts of the body most responsible for uprightness are our eyes & feet. Asymmetry of feet and eyes are present in about 8 out of 10 people. This doesn’t necessary mean that 8 out of 10 people will have pain. In fact, our bodies are really good at compensating, and we can still be very successful with these imbalances. However, these imbalances can lead to wear and tear on our body, which can lead to problems down the road.

What we do to fix these imbalances is go right at two of the most sensitive areas that impact posture: the feet & eyes. With interventions, we are able to see improvements in the postural system.

Red light therapy

Red Light Therapy: Combines deep red (630 + 660 NM) and infrared lights (850 NM) to activate deep cell regeneration and reduce inflammation.

How does it work? The  low light and infrared light penetrate deep into the skin, providing energy to the cells, which allows the cells to function more efficiently and repair damages. This allows more rapid healing of tissue, muscles, tendons, and even bones. We like to think of red light therapy as a caffeine boost to your cells. Your body still does the healing work, the light just gives your body extra energy to promote healing.

Normatec Pulse Recovery System

  • Recover quickly post training or post game/practice
  • Decrease muscle fatigue so you are ready for your next practice/game
  • Increase circulation
  • Reduce pain and soreness
  • Increase range of motion

Other methods of sensory integrations

We utilize Williams & Shellenbergers pyramid of learning to assess clients primitive reflexes & sensory system. Primitive reflexes are the foundation of our nervous system, and originate in the brain stem. Non integrated reflexes can cause chronic stress and can effect our movement, lead to muscle tension, aches, fatigue, health problems, and even Neuro-developmental disorders. In reality, anything up the pyramid above “Central Nervous System” can be effected by non integrated reflexes.

We also understand the importance of sensory integration. We will check our clients sensory system through various methods. Any issues with our tactile, vestibular, or proprioceptive systems can lead to a variety of problems. This includes anything up the pyramid.
